Contemporary life is monotonous.
Brushing teeth, pouring coffee, waiting for the bus, eating an apple, hanging washing to dry. These humdrum moments collectively consume a sizable part of our waking lives, and this makes most of human life a tedious and boring experience. But viewed as a whole, these routine moments become daily rituals that allow us to escape the uncertainty and confusion that life brings. Mindless activities remove the need for decision-making, they defeat distraction with consistency, and they afford us a moment to pause.
My work explores this monotony and demonstrates the composure and quietude gained through repetition. I hope viewers of my work are offered a moment to reflect and find solace in the monotonous activities of our contemporary lives.
